Anatomy of a Season: Finding My Feet as a Pro
I started and finished my outdoor track season this year with a road mile. My first and second *ever* road miles, in fact. On April 26 I ran at the U.S. Road Mile Champs in Des Moines, IA and finished 6th in 4:38 against a great field, and on September 8 I ran 4:22 at the 5th Avenue Mile in New York City and finished 3rd against an arguably much more competitive field.
Outer-What? New Outerwear
Outside running is good running. And outside running requires options. For the wind, the rain, the cold, the change body temp, from start to finish. It’s a design challenge - one we happily sign up for. Like that fall marathon. Buckle up, friends. This season’s outerwear is thoughtfully designed, beautifully colored, and technically excellent.

And just like that another Big Birdcamp has come and gone, and what a special weekend it was! We can’t thank everyone enough for bringing their positive vibes, amazing floaties, beer mile relay teams, running legs, spicy catwalks, and killer dance moves. The Third Time is the Charm
I have been named to Team Canada for the 2019 IAAF World Championships in Doha, Qatar to run the marathon. This is not the first chance I should have been at the championships – in 2015 I was offered an invite in the 1500m, but Athletics Canada declined my chance to participate. In 2017 I was offered another invite in the 5000m, and again Athletics Canada declined my spot.
Mountain Bike Racing is For Every Woman
Have you ever paid attention at your local 5k to see how many males to females there were? Chances are, it was a pretty even count and it didn’t even cross your mind. If the ratio was 81% male to 19% female, you definitely would have noticed. This is the average percentage for most of the mountain bike races I have participated in around Utah. 19% female. And even that is considered a good turnout

The that has been a whole host of things, ranging from playing in the band, reading nonfiction, and of course running marathons. Even when that phrase is not verbally shared, I know that by being an African-American woman marathoner, I am going against the grain.
