#AskBrenda on Shopping 101

Clothes should inspire freedom, comfort and confidence. Confidence. It lives within us in various forms. With that said, it's important to know thyself. Knowing and embracing certain things about ourselves vs. trying to change them goes a long way when it comes to finding said confidence.

Just Wear the Damn Shorts

Just Wear the Damn Shorts

Shorts. In my experience women fall into two categories when it comes to shorts. They either love them or hate them. The same goes for bathing suits, crops or finding that perfect pair of jeans. There just isn’t a lot of middle ground for these articles of clothing. You either love them or avoid them at all cost. Like even in the sweltering height of summer. The women will continually reach for capris or tights even in 90+ degree weather. Why? Why do we do this?

Be bold this summer and rock something outside of your comfort zone.

Sadly as women, myself included we are conditioned to dislike something about ourselves. For me it’s my stomach or mid-section. So crops, crops have never been my thing. Until now. Now I simply don’t care. Why should I have to subject myself to wait for the perfect body to wear X and X article of clothing? The perfect body. What is that anyway? How did that idea even come into my head and why have I allowed it to flourish? Despite my exterior confidence and swagger, those effing body shaming demons also live inside me and I hate them. They rob me of so much joy. They rob me of time and creativity.

So I guess what I want to say to you all is, if you experience any hot, humid or unsavory temperatures this summer, for the love of all that’s good in the world, just put on a pair of shorts. Long shorts, booty shorts, loose shorts, tight shorts, whatever you feel most comfortable in, but really do it. And believe it or not I’m writing this post in a freaking crop. Because I have great shoulders and fantastic breast so who cares if my belly is soft. No one. No one cares but me and as of late. I don’t care! In fact, I got tons of compliments from my friends and co-workers. So be bold this summer and rock something outside your comfort zone.
