MAC ROGA SHORTS
For those who seek maximum legs-out freedom, but an alternative to the booty short, the Mac Roga was inspired by Sarah “Mac” Robinson who wanted Rogas that were “a little less.” The same semi-fitted style that defines the Roga family, now with an extra large, center back zip pocket, Plya Compression waistband, and a new Roga Stretch Woven that is more fluid - with all the same stretch!
- Roga Stretch Woven fabric (polyester/spandex)
- Plya Compression waistband (polyester/spandex)
- interior drawcord
- built-in technical liner
- rear zip waist pocket
- four way stretch for full motion
- machine washable
- 1.75" inseam (all sizes)
Solid shorts. These shorts went on my pregnancy journey with me and survived going from 120 pounds to 160+ pounds, and now in the low 130s. Now, I wash in cold water and hang dry- so I do expect the stretch to perform well. But still! Very happy.
I like that the current summer/fall 2020 version moved the little pocket from the butt cheek to the waistband. But this generation seems slightly more billowy, which I don’t like. I prefer a tighter fit to my thighs. These tend to flair out, which I find unflattering.
I find them comparable to my other go-tos, the Lululemon Speed Up Shorts (2.5”). I find these size a bit smaller. So I wear a 6 in the Lulu’s (although sometimes a 4), but definitely a 4 in these.
I have multiple pairs of Mac Rogas. This latest design has some improvements. I like this band better. I like the wide stretch fabric and the low fit. I don’t feel the band like the older versions with the drawstring. The pocket is better. The short though I pretty much hate. I’ve worn on at least 4 runs to make sure I’m able to assess. The fabric is much more billowy and there’s just too much of it for a close fitting short short. Hot sweaty runs and the excess fabric and stitching annoy me the ENTIRE time. I couldn’t wait to get the shorts off my body. I much prefer the older cut. It seems Oiselle has done this with the shirts as well. I’m 5’9” and a size 4 in these. The inner liner is fine and I don’t think sizing down would help. The old Mac 4s were much more fitted and work better for me. If I wanted a “blowsy” fit then I would’ve ordered a different style from the dozens of other brands. Unless Oiselle returns to the previous fitted cut that made these so great, I’m looking elsewhere.
The silhouette of the shorts and length is great and I find, overall, flattering. I don’t find the waist too tight or too loose but I feel like the built-in underwear are baggy and large. Weirdly the leg opening happens to be a bit tight for the underwear as well. If I am running or working out this is not noticeable but wearing them in general is slightly frustrating. Maybe I should have gotten a size smaller but, alas, my quick hands already cut the tags off.
I LOVE these shorts. I'm a distance runner living in southern california, and it's a struggle finding shorts that don't ride up or chafe after a couple of hours. I've tried half a dozen shorts by different brands this summer trying to find the right pair, and these are it. However, they run large. I wear 6 in other oiselle shorts, and my dimensions exactly match the size chart for size 6 (37" hips, 28" waist; 5'7" 140lbs), but the size 6 was enormous. The waist was inches too big, and the shorts puffed way out in front, it looked like I was wearing skirts on both my legs. I contacted customer service and they told me I should have ordered a 4 given my measurements. So I returned the 6 and ordered the 4 and they fit absolutely perfectly. I do wish the size chart would reflect the correct sizing since it cost $10 to send back the return.
Lifelong Mac Roga fan but the new version of the shorts just aren’t flattering. I like SHORT SHORTS and these seem to go way long in the back. They puff out a bit weirdly in the front, but I could live with that, but the back...too much coverage for a ‘short short’! Bummer.
These shorts were my first Oiselle purchase, and WOW! They are my instant new fave. So comfortable! LOVE THEM! 5'7, 140 lbs and the size 6 is perfect.
I love love love these shorts and since they have redesigned them I wasn’t sure if I would still love them, but they may be even better than ever! They are super comfortable, the lining doesn’t cut my cheeks, and the length is perfect for hot weather! I wear these for running, walking, CrossFit, or casually. I’ve been a fan for years and thought having 14 pairs was enough, but sometimes I buy duplicates. I can live in these during the summer.
This is my second pair of Mac Rogas, and I got the Pacific color, which is beautiful. The only problem is that I looked like I’d peed myself after an 8-miler in them. They reeeeally show sweat stains in this color, so be aware for planning purposes! The fabric seems lighter and more technical than my previous pair (2017, I think), and the pocket is now a massive waistband pocket, large enough to hold my phone in its bulky case. Way better than the small “butt-pocket” from before. The overall fit is bigger than my older pair, with the leg openings being a bit too big for me. No problem when running, just not as flattering (I have pretty skinny legs but mommy hips, so have issues with baggy shorts gaping at the leg openings).
Overall, better technical specs than previous iteration, but I wish the leg openings were more tailored like before. Great for staying comfortable in hot weather, except you may want to go with a less “sweaty looking” color if that’s of concern.
