Best Lightweight Wind Protection

I originally bought the Vim many years ago and it was finally time to replace mine. Was really happy to see the colors are just as pretty. I love how lightweight this layer is, it's really easy to pack with you an extra "emergency layer." When in doubt, I bring it along and it's perfect when you need an extra layer between you and the elements. It's great against nasty wind and I'd say it's rain/water resistant, not a full waterproof layer, but it's still very good at keeping your core and body drier and warmer. For reference, I'm a size 2/4 and XS/S in Oiselle depending, and the XS fit perfect with room to comfortably wear a wool or other mid-layer underneath.

Failed when I actually needed it

I've had this jacket for a few years and have always loved the weight and packability. I've worn it on lots of hikes as a light windbreaker but haven't had the chance to test it in a steady rain until recently. It started raining for the last mile of my run and by the time I finished, it was plastered to my arms and my shirt and bra were completely soaked. It was as if I hadn't worn a jacket at all. I'll continue to bring this along as a windbreaker but will need to find something else to stay dry. I hope newer versions are more water resistant!

I want to love it but quality issues

This looks great on me, a size 14 (xl), and was the bright, lightweight option I was looking for. It works for running, gravel rides, summer hiking, etc. However, from day 1 the dainty zipper has been finicky so I'm treating it verrrrry carefully. Today in a rain shower at Mesa Verde (perfect to bust it out!), the hood elastic came out entirely at one end. I've done a hotel-room fix, but it's a bummer when I've had it exactly 3 weeks.

Dang this is great little jacket

I bought this at the birthday sale and finally got to really test it out over the weekend. I climbed a couple 13ers and the wind was insane. Had a little bit of light rain as well. The jacket performed perfectly. I only had on a long sleeve tech shirt under it, temps were about 30 degrees but coupled with the crazy wind. My upper body felt just fine. I was impressed. The next day I did a run at much lower elevation where it was pretty windy. Felt really good most of the time for the wind, but got a little hot toward the end. Not enough to have to take it off though. Temps were in the 50s. I'm 5'5" 145 lbs and got the medium.

Happy with the purchase

I'm 5'4 and 123 lbs. I. ordered a small, and it's not too snug. I could comfortably wear a long sleeve inside. I love every detail in this jacket. I ordered this to wear as a mid-layer as I brace myself for below zero degrees running weather!

Love this jacket!

This jacket has been great for my runs this winter. I typically wear it when the temperature is anywhere from 10s-30s and it's great at keeping me warm. I love the reflective stripe for added visibility. I wouldn't mind having vents because the sweat definitely condenses inside the jacket, but for the most part it doesn't bother me and I can just leave the jacket half-zipped for some more ventilation. I highly recommend!

My Go To Running Jacket

I ran in my VIM in Seattle for two years and six marathons (eep). I don't mind getting wet in the rain, and this jacket protects me from the wind without turning into a sweaty sauna. Last week someone swiped my jacket. I'm replacing it right away, because it is perfect. I hope you like it too.

A staple

I live in this jacket in WI, through fall, winter (mid 20's), and now spring. Its an ideal weight, not too light and not too heavy and I regularly take it off mid run and forget its even on my waist. Its not a rain jacket (doesn't claim to be) or even a jacket to wear against a drizzle if you want to remain dry, but works well in the wind. It could definitely use some under arm vents, as others have suggested. This hasn't stopped me from wearing it all the time, but it would be a huge improvement.
