Do you have a quote that guides, inspires, or embodies your training/racing/life?
"What would you attempt to do if you knew you could not fail?" When you realize failing doesn't make you a failure, you give yourself permission to try all sorts of things!
What is your favorite post-race meal?
A drooling burger and a frosty stout.
What is your must-have piece of running gear?
These days, while pregnant, a supportive sports bra! But in general, shorts that perform and make my butt look good at the same time: Rogas baby!
Do you have a training philosophy?
After meeting athletes from all over the world, I've learned that there are countless ways to reach a desired outcome. I don't put too much stock in any particular workouts; I chip away, balancing hard work with recovery and listening to my body.
I also focus on my strengths. I don't devote any more than 10% of my energy to working on my weaknesses. I'll never be perfect, and don't have to be. My strengths are my strengths for a reason, and focusing on them allows me to work on weaknesses from a place of confidence rather than need. Confidence is worth more than anything else.
Mistakes are necessary. Pain is desirable.
Oh yeah, and take a day off every week and don't eat like an idiot.
What is your favorite place to run?
The Deschutes River Trail from Meadow Camp to Benham Falls in Bend, OR tops a long list. If it is single track, rolling, and follows water, I'll be borderline insane with glee.
Why do you run?
Because it's tattooed on my heart.
What animal do you most resemble in your racing and why?
A lion: strong, athletic, graceful, and full of courage (on my good days :)) I may not be the lithest, the most talented, or have the fastest time in the field, but I have passion and courage, and sometimes that is enough to do something extraordinary.
What is your favorite activity, when not running?
Working creatively on something. Or eating.
Complete the sentence: If I was stranded in a hotel room with one movie and one book, they would be…
Love Actually, and a blank, leather bound moleskin.
