Basic Bird 3/4 Tights
Streamlined. Minimal seams. The new Basic Bird Collection is all about building a solid running wardrobe you can always count on. Our Basic Bird Tights fit much like the Lux Life Tights (high-rise, wide-fit waistband with a 2-in-1 pocket) but in a high compression fabric (made of 82% recycled polyester and 18% spandex).
Looking for a little more length? Try the Basic Bird 7/8 Tights.
These leggings were advertised as high rise, but WOW, did that mean high-rise. I’m 5’4, and the waistband went to about 1” below my bra line on front, touching my bra on my back. It looks comical on me. I would have expected Oiselle to scale the rise so that the smaller sizes have a slightly lower rise, so that the waistband sits at a similar, reasonable level on people of different heights/sizes, but they didn’t. Oiselle missed the mark here.
I really wanted to like them… the color and fabric are beautiful, but there’s no way on earth that I would wear these to run.
They also run slightly big. I am on the upper end of 4’s in Roga shorts, and ordered a 4 in these as well, but they are loose. I won’t be keeping them due to the ridiculously high rise, but if I had, I’d be exchanging them for a 2.
I was really excited for these tights and almost kept them, but they are really high waisted (I was told the highest O offers) and on my short 5' 2" frame, they just don't work. But I loved everything else about the tights...the fabric, the back pockets, the length, the feel. I love my usual side pockets, but it's nice to have a sleeker option (no phone bulging out my side leg). Some people LOVE high waisted pants, but I much prefer a mid-rise to slightly high rise. Good job design team.
I love how simple the look is for these tights. No side pockets, big bulky waist pockets, etc. They definitely feel technical enough for running, but I bought them as an everyday layer, since I don't run in tights often. The hidden rear waist pocket is really useful, too - not bulky at all, but enough to tuck a small item in if necessary. The fabric is SO soft!
Fit-wise, they do feel a little snug the first time you put them on, but fit perfectly once they are in place - the high waist makes it feel like they are not going to make it over my hips at first, but they are perfectly stretchy and fit great.
I have wanted Oiselle to come out with a tight that is really simple and in a fabric that is lighter than the pocket joggers, but softer than their other plya/poly tights (like the firecracker and other lighter fabrics). Those are nice, but I wanted something that was light *and* had a softer hand. OMG the Basic Bird tights check the boxes! I also really appreciate that the waist is wide and does NOT have a tight elastic band in it. The fabric is my favorite they've come out with so far - have really high hopes that these will become my new favorite running tights.
