What is your favorite quote that guides, inspires, or embodies your training/racing/life?
"You've always had the power, my dear, you just had to learn it for yourself." - Glinda the Good Witch
Favorite post-race meal?
Pizza and Salad. I never really want the sweet stuff after racing.
What is your must-have piece of running gear?
My watch, mostly because I need to cover up the insane watch tan, which now seems to be permanent and not just a summer thing.
Do you have a training philosophy?
"Of course it's hard. It's supposed to be hard. If it were easy everybody would do it." - A League of Their Own
There are definitely easy days, and I always try to remember to listen to my body when I need them, but it is easy to give up when things get hard, and this is what I like to remind myself.
What is your favorite place to run?
Green Lakes State Park in Fayetteville, NY
Why do you run?
I run because it makes me feel free and powerful. I love the feel of competition: sweaty palms, increased heart rate, and anxiousness. I love the feeling of accomplishment and pride. I love that it is difficult and takes hard work. And I love going for a run as an escape.
What animal do you most resemble in your racing and why?
A flying squirrel. Someone once told me that I look like I glide, like a cross country skiier, and flying squirrels are gliders.
What is your favorite activity, when not running?
Reading, preferably sitting by the fire while it's snowing or raining.
Complete the sentence: If I was stranded in a hotel room with one movie and one book they would be…
John Steinbeck's East of Eden and Zoolander.
