I started running seriously after I realized that I wasn't skilled enough to play soccer in college. It was around the time that I also applied early-decision to my dream college and ended up being deferred. Everything later worked out splendidly, although at the time it all seemed crushing. I likely would not be running today, had these two disappointments not occurred. I try to keep this in mind with little things as well - a workout doesn't go as planned or a target race is not a PR. Sometimes that's a kick I need to adjust my training or increase my sleep or to better balance work stress.
Why do you run?
To compete, to clear my mind, to commute, to connect. I do the run-commute to work about 3 times a week and it's the perfect start and end to each day: time to conside the day's challenges and then time to distance myself from them.
What is your favorite place to run?
Pretty much any trail in Boulder! Anything off of Mesa is usually delightful!
Running gear you can't live without?
Sunscreen, sunglasses, and layers! Colorado's weather is sunny and temperamental.
When you're not running where would we find you?
At yoga class, getting suckered into lawn games with my housemates, traveling or planning new travels.
What is your favorite post-race treat?
Chocolate Milk! Actually post-run treat everyday. I guess I would have to say something with either almond butter or avocado.
