I read a bunch of reviews that warned that the waistband was uncomfortably tight, but I decided to give it a try anyway. That was a mistake. I want to love these shorts, but I really really dislike them. I hoped they would get more comfortable as I wear them more often, but it's not happening. The material of shorts is nice and heavy duty, and the pockets are great. The waistband though is much thicker than the rest of the short. I could deal with that, but then in addition to the extra thick material, there is a band of elastic around the middle that hits above my belly button. The elastic is significantly tighter than the rest of the shorts! Not only is it super uncomfortable, but also very unflattering. And let's be honest part of what I love about the wonderful suctioning fabric of running pants and shorts is that they pull everything in and make me feel sleek and fast. These really have the opposite effect and it's a real bummer :(
I loved previous seasons of these shorts - the fit and pockets were perfection. But the current version just do not fit the same. While my normal size for well in the legs, the waistband was unbearably tight. Seriously the last thing I want while running is pressure on my bladder or lower GI tract. They also came up higher on me (not comfortable or flattering) and the leg inseam was longer (6-6.5" vs the 4.75" listed). Customer service advised that I try a size up- but they were too loose in the leg and the waist was still awful. Sad - hope one day they are back to normal! I have paid too much return shipping to try again.
I purchase these every year. These are the only shorts that store everything I need comfortably. The side pockets securely hold your phone. I stash my key and card in the back. And the mesh pockets are perfect for nutrition on race day or longer runs. They wash well (no stink) and I hang them to dry. And they last well. I get 2-3 years out of them before the elastic starts breaking down and they begin to ride up/. I wear a size 4 - 5'8" and #130. I like this length but also wear the longer cut in the fall/spring. The fabric is thick and absorbent - not ideal for the hottest days and colors do show sweat. Oiselle - please try to re-imagine these in a lighter sweat wicking fabric.
I adore these shorts - I have two pairs and am contemplating a third. I am 5'8" and my weight ranges from 145-155. I usually wear an 8 but sized up to a 10 based on reviews and am glad I did. I have muscular thighs and these are really comfortable and flattering on them. The pockets are game-changers and I don't think I will ever buy another pair of running shorts/capris/tights without the side pockets. I've been putting these on first thing in the morning all summer and wearing them until I finish my workout, and washing them frequently. They've held up beautifully. I'd love to see these in the black/black birds fabric.
I love these for the pockets, but the waistband was so uncomfortably tight, I couldn't wear them because they actually hurt. The waistband has way too much material and elastic and seaming. I ended up cutting into them and removing as much of the elastic as I could. Not the greatest solution, but at least I can wear them. This isn't an issue with sizing. They fit everywhere else.
I had purchased the empire (purple) color in June in a size 4. It fit a tad loose but stayed up and no problems. Then I decided to order the black in a size 4 and it was way to big! What I feel is unreasonable is that you order the size that fits and you have to pay to return it because the manufacturer has inconsistent sizing! I'm not sure if I want to reorder to get the size 2 because it is too expensive!
I agree with many of the other reviews. The sizing is off compared to older versions. This year I bought some of the new colors in my usual size 4 and the were way too tight compared to some I bought last year. Definitely size up. The material seems slightly stiffer than previous versions too. Despite all that, the pocket jogger is still one of my favorite pair of shorts to workout in.
I am a size 2 in the pocket jogger tights (last year's version), so I bought these shorts in a size 2. The waist is significantly smaller than my tights, but I was able to help that a little by cutting out the elastic string on the waistband. Besides that, the fabric is great and the pockets are super convenient. I hope next year's shorts have a little more give in the waist!
