Running Group Lovefest

Running group love is some of the truest there is. They wake you up at 6am to get your run on, they get you to the track on time, push you to be better, support your running and your dreams.
You have your own traditions, anniversaries, favorite running loops, inside jokes. They've seen you at your best and at your worst. They've probably even seen you go to the bathroom, in the trees, grass, behind a dumpster...what's more intimate than that really?
We want to honor this unique and beautiful relationship by giving your running group the chance to win Start Line tees. We'd love to meet your running group - so all you need to do to enter the contest is introduce them!

In July, a group of us (16) started training together for the Portland Marathon. We were all marathon virgins and most of us thought we were crazy to be signing up for this adventure. But we have great coaches - Beth Baker, Pamela Wuest and Kristel Krame made us laugh, believed in us and planned fun routes around Seattle. For 14 weeks, we were guaranteed a Saturday long slow run together, but had the option to run and/or train together three other times during the week. With that much time together, we've discussed jobs, boyfriends, husbands, kids, potential job changes, our pasts, our hopes... and all the crazy stuff that comes when you run farther than you've ever run before (chafing, blisters, BMs, nutrition, sleep schedules, sports bras, etc). This weekend, we finished the Portland Marathon to see our coaches there at the end, with tears in their eyes. The night before, they calmed us down and loaded us up with carbs... the morning of, they got us to the start line and then they set out to run with us. Along the way, we cheered each other on and celebrated each other! Our post run fun includes lots of chocolate milk, breakfasts, hula hoops, coffee and dinners. And hopefully, our first post-marathon run will be together this weekend with a celebration dinner on Sunday!

- Who are you? Your group? (if you don't have a name yet this might be the perfect time to dream one up) We used to be called the Red Hot Racers but then we merged with a guy's team. So the team came up with a new name, Prado Racing Team. We liked how part of the initials were PR and the Prado Bridge is a cool part of many San Diego races. Plus, Prado means field in spanish, and we all agreed that running in meadows is fun.
- Where are you from? Our team is in sunny San Diego, CA!
- Tell us all about it! Are you track divas, training for the same race, getting the long run done, weekly girlfriend time, virtual running group...? Our team focuses on cross country in the Fall and the spring is more individual. On the girl's side, we ask teammates to commit to Tue mrgn (6am start!) track workouts and most do group Sunday long-runs and/or Thursday fartlek workouts. The coolest part about our squad is that we range in speed from a 17 minute 5k and a 2:48 marathon to a 19 minute 5k and a 3:30 marathon but no one is snobby. We all push each other through running and in life and the social support aspect of training and racing together means that I have 11 sisters and 15 brothers (even though I'm an only child ;)
- What does your group do for post-run fun? I think post-long run brunch is our favorite meal together but we also like wine and cheese and this weekend is our post cross-country championship end of season party! Both the guys and the girls are in first going into it and we hope there will be lot's to celebrate on Sat :)

"Moms on the run". As a Seattle native, but transplant to the Midwest, I've found running with my fellow "mom" runners something to look forward to. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday we meet at 5:00 am to run 3-6 miles and catch up on our lives. I adore this time. There are 5 of us total. Two of us just ran our first 8 mile trail run last weekend. So much fun! Even though I can't run with my real sisters in Seattle, I now have my "sole sisters"/mom friends to help me stay healthy, grounded and happy. Cheers! Leslie
