What is your favorite quote that guides, inspires, or embodies your training/racing/life?
“Life is not a problem to be solved, but a gift to be enjoyed.” Every day I try to roll out of bed with this mind set. This quote is one that I have, at one point or another, applied to every dimension of my life whether it be running, school, work, or a personal relationship. The ability to run is a gift with which I have been blessed—so, as long as I am able, I am going to use that gift to the fullest and enjoy it!

Favorite post-race meal?
My post-race meal preferences are always changing, but one thing will always remain the same. I must end my night with some form of chocolate!

What is your must-have piece of running gear?
My watch!

Do you have a training philosophy?
Balance, balance, and more balance! Running is not who I am. Rather, it is something I do. Train hard and set goals, but don’t forget to have fun in the process and never let your sport define you as a person.

What is your favorite place to run?
The University of Wisconsin Arboretum trails in Madison. This place is truly a runner’s paradise.

Why do you run?
I am a goal-setter. I have always enjoyed testing my fitness and challenging myself to achieve a higher goal. Running has allowed me to do just that. It is not only my passion, but it is also my outlet! I can tie up my laces, get out the door, and go for a quick run if I need to vent after a hard day.

What animal do you most resemble in your racing and why?
It’s only fitting that I use my alma mater’s mascot—the badger. We both are short-legged, scrappy, and extremely fierce in the face of competition. And hey, we both love to eat!

What is your favorite activity, when not running?
If I’m not running, you can find me spending time outdoors or enjoying the company of my family and friends. Eating great food and listening to music are two of my other favorite pastimes.

Complete the sentence: If I was stranded in a hotel room with one movie and one book they would be…
Book: Proof of Heaven by Dr. Eben Alexander. Movie: Shawshank Redemption (I could watch it a million times over, and never get sick of Morgan Freeman’s voice!).
