What is your favorite quote that guides, inspires, or embodies your training/racing/life?
The quote that inspires me to train at my highest capacity and push my limits to new heights is from the “Inches” speech in Any Given Sunday. “In any fight, it is the guy who is willing to die who is going to win that inch. And I know if I am going to have any life anymore, it is because I am still willing to fight, and die for that inch because that is what LIVING is.” I listen to the entire speech before almost every race and anytime after I have had an off training session. Gives me chills just writing it!
Favorite post-race meal?
Chicken Burrito loaded with avocado, cilantro, and lime! YUM!
What is your must-have piece of running gear?
My watch -- I feel naked without it.
Do you have a training philosophy?
Train hard and healthy, listen and take care of your body in every way possible, and be comfortable with being uncomfortable.
What is your favorite place to run?
I love running in forested areas. Point Reyes is a perfect example of the types of trails I love to run on.
Why do you run?
I absolutely love pushing my body to heights I never thought possible. I can’t imagine my life without running.
What is your favorite workout?
I love any kind of repeats, whether they be hills, tempos, or 200s. I love how your body slowly starts getting tired and you have to take them one at a time as you feel more and more exhausted. Lactic acid sets in, your legs feel heavy, your breathing is labored, your mind tells you to stop, but you keep pushing.
What is your favorite activity, when not running?
I LOVE horseback riding. It’s my therapy. I absolutely adore the intense horse-and-rider relationship one builds with their horse
