This last weekend was a crazy one for US Track and Field. If you don't know what I'm talking about, Google "women's indoor 3k controversy" or look at websites of Flotrack or RunBlogRun or USATF or really any running-related website in this country.
My love for sport began at a time of the year much like today…the aftermath of the 1984 Winter Olympics. At the age of 11 I was two years into my own figure skating career. I fell in love with the sport at the age of seven after watching the 1980 Lake Placid Olympics on TV. I worked out countless hours on the ice but, after 9 years of pouring my soul into perfecting my skating career, I just couldn’t do it anymore. I fell out of love with the competition because of the intense pressure and judgment that came with it. What I realized through track is that I loved the feeling of stepping to the line of a race and the only one judging me was the clock.
