Do you have a quote that guides, inspires, or embodies your training/racing/life?
Running is the most honest thing I know and has mirrowed my accomplishments and struggles. Therefore this quote by Oprah Winfrey inspires me. "Running is the greatest metaphor of life, because you get out of it what you put into it."
Why do you run?
It's cathartic: it really is the best way for me to relieve stress. Running helps me set goals that only require my own hard work and determination to acheive them. Running has taught me life lessons: lessons about achieving goals and not achieving goals: lessons about camaraderie and sportsmanship. I have made many great friends through running. Running has given me so much that I use that passion to give back to my community through several organizations. Running helps me be more creative. I am a amateur photographer; running is the basis for some of my best photos. Basically running has made my life richer in numerous ways other than just a healthy body.
What is your favorite place to run?
I am very fortunate to live by Lake Michigan and the Milwaukee River. Milwaukee also has gold medal winning parks so we have lot's of beautiful parks, paths, and lake views. However, being an explorer, my absolute favorite place to run is somewhere new! I love visiting new cities and seeing what their running communities has to offer.
Running gear you can't live without?
On every run I will always have my Nike+ watch, IPod shuffle, sunglasses, and some sort of head gear (a bandana or hat to keep sweat out of my eyes).
What is your favorite local running store?
InStep Running and Therapy Centers. They are active in the community hosting charity runs as well as being super kind, informed, helpful and positive.
When you're not running where would we find you?
My day job is that I am a multi media developer in a postproduction house. Total nerd! I am also a 5k race director for the Girls on the Run program in Milwaukee. Most recently I became a founder of a group called Olallie. With collaboration of other fitness and well being enthusiastics in Milwaukee our mission is to bring people together to collaborate and help educate about the many aspects in the culture of health, fitness, and well being through various activities and events within the Milwaukee community and bring it to the digital world. I'm also a foodie, and amateur pop artist and photographer. Sometimes I even sleep as well!
What is your favorite post-race treat?
Immediately post race, I know I should say fruit, however honestly the first thing I usually grab is a cookie THEN the fruit. It's the sugar fiend in me! Otherwise if I do well in a race I'll treat myself to some artisanl cheese from this fabulous Italian market down the block.
