What is your favorite quote that guides, inspires, or embodies your training/racing/life?
“The athlete and the artist lived in the same world and did the same thing: they both asserted the spirit in order to thrust the individual beyond time and achieve something permanent.” - A. Bartlett Giamatti
Favorite post-race meal?
A cheeseburger and for dessert fro yo with toppings.
What is your must-have piece of running gear?
A comfy, yet form fitting, sports top and shorts.
Do you have a training philosophy?
Everyday consistency equals big results. To quote Kevin Malone, “Many small time make big time.”
What is your favorite place to run?
It’s definitely a tie between the mountain roads throughout Rothrock State Park in State College, PA and the carriage roads in Acadia National Park on Mount Desert Island, Maine. Both have challenging climbs and have the most beautiful and rewarding views along the way.
Why do you run?
I love the complete lifestyle that is running. You are forced to make healthy choices in order to be at your best. The rewards of that are limitless to your physical and mental well being.
What animal do you most resemble in your racing and why?
I’d have to say a mongoose because it’s so unassuming. It appears cute and harmless but it’s actually pretty dangerous. I think a lot of people don’t expect me to be as fierce of a competitor as I am.
What is your favorite activity, when not running?
I was an art major, taught art at a high school, and have been commissioned for various projects over the years, so my other passion is tapping into my creative side. I love using running or any sports activity as the composition of my pieces.
Complete the sentence: If I was stranded in a hotel room with one movie and one book they would be. . .
The Goonies and The Big House. For some reason The Goonies has always made me feel good inside. The Goonies overcome seemingly insurmountable odds to achieve their goals. It also takes me back to my childhood and I love everything about that. The Big House is about a house in Cape Cod and the history behind it and its owners. I grew up spending a few weeks each summer at the Cape so this also takes me back.
