Do you have a quote that guides, inspires, or embodies your training/racing/life?
"A woman is like a tea bag - you never know how strong she is until she gets in hot water." - Attributed to Eleanor Roosevelt
This quote speaks to the importance of putting yourself on the line in every time. When I run, I am commit to setting goals and never cheating myself. I’d rather finish a hard run and be tired and sore but know that I’m stronger for the effort. Testing our strength is about making the most of every effort, knowing full well it might be tough.
Why do you run?
Running is purely mine. I’m a wife, a mom, an entrepreneur, a writer, and a volunteer. Like so many women, I wear a variety of ‘hats’ and each of those roles impacts someone else. Except running.
When I run, the intimacy I find in my mind and heart centers me and helps me to find my voice. It may not be that I am a runner at my core (though I suspect that may be the case) – it is because I am a runner that I have found the core of who I am. If that's not enough, I run to:
- push the bar farther
- hear the music in my ears, the prayers in my heart and the ideas in my mind
- be a good friend
- feel strong and sexy
- inspire my kids, especially my daughter
- see the sunrise with my dog
What is your favorite place to run?
Colorado. If I could live and run there, I’d never do anything else. So, it's probably good that I live in Georgia!
Running gear you can't live without?
It's so that I actually get teased about my "lucky" frog hat. It's old and nasty, but it rarely fails me.
What is your favorite post-race treat?
Coffee and Huevos Rancheros
Where would we find you when you're not running?
Working from home (I’m so lucky!) with my dog under my chair, cooking something yummy, watching my kids play soccer or volunteering.
