Do you have a quote that guides, inspires, or embodies your training/racing/life?
"A woman is like a tea bag - you nver know how strong she is until she gets in hot water." - Attributed to Eleanor Roosevelt

This quote speaks to the importance of putting yourself on the line in every experience. When I go out to run, I am committed to doing my best – setting goals and never cheating myself by doing less than I think I can. I’d rather finish a hard run and be tired and sore but know that I’m stronger for the effort; instead of having run the miles just to lay them down. In this way, my commitment to myself as a runner is like my commitment to myself as a person – testing my strength is about making the most of every effort, knowing full well it might be tough.

Why do you run?
Running is purely mine. I’m a wife, a mom, an entrepreneur, a writer, a PTA president, a freelance race organizer and a preschool ministry coordinator. Like so many women, I wear a variety of ‘hats’ and each of those roles impacts someone else.

Except running.

The decision to run is mine alone. When I run, the intimacy I find in my mind and heart centers me and helps me to find my voice. It may not be that I am a runner at my core (though I suspect that may be the case) – it is because I am a runner that I have found the core of who I am.

Besides being totally selfish (she says with an ironic grin), I could list many reasons why I run, including:

–To push the bar farther and to persevere
–To hear myself breathe
– For the music in my ears, the prayers in my heart and the ideas in my mind
–To be a good listener and friend
–To feel strong and sexy
–To race and for the joyous tears at the finish line
–To watch the sun rise with my dog
Who said running was simple?

What is your favorite place to run?
Hands down, Colorado. If I could live and run there, I’d never do anything else.

Running gear you can't live without?
I’m a shoe nerd, so that’s a biggie but I’m surprisingly fickle about my shoes, so it has to be either to well-fitting compression socks or my special underpants. Call me superstitious, but the one time I wasn’t racing in my special undies, I didn’t hit my target speed goal. Coincidence? I think not.

What is your favorite post-race treat?
Coffee and Huevos Rancheros

Where would we find you when you're not running?
Either working (from home – I’m so lucky!) with my two dogs at my feet, or volunteering at my kids’ school.

Complete the sentence: If I was stranded in a hotel room with one movie and one book, they would be…
The Princess Bride and A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius.
