Do you have a quote that guides, inspires, or embodies your training/racing/life?
I was running my first half marathon and I was having a hard time towards the end of it. I approached a pretty intimidating hill. I looked up at it and I thought, "You ain't no punk!" I still use it to this day. I think it over and over when I start to struggle in a race or in life - it helps to keep me motivated and it's a reminder that I am strong as long as I keep my head in the game.

Why do you run?
I run because it is a huge part of my identity. I've been doing it since I was a little girl and I don't know myself without it. I love the clarity and freedom that running brings me. I have also found that running has connected me with a wonderful community of like-minded people - who are now my friends.

What is your favorite place to run?
I really love to run along Lake Michigan in Milwaukee. Looking at the lake, you'd think it is an ocean (but we don't worry about hurricanes!) It is absolutely beautiful and there are plenty of trails in the area.

Running gear you can't live without?
I'm pretty much a minimalist when it comes to gear. I rarely carry much with me - but I always have pepper spray and my New Balance 1400 racing flats.

What is your favorite local running store?
Performance Running Outfitters

When you're not running where would we find you?
You might find me at home with my put, Gertie, or working on my stationery line PaperMichelle, coaching my cross country team or you might find me out with friends taking a brewery tour. Many times you can find me at a Mexican restaurant - eating veggies only of course! Speaking of veggies, I love to garden and cook as well.

What is your favorite post-race treat?
I'm simple: banana and chocolate milk!
