Do you have a quote that guides, inspires, or embodies your training/racing/life?
"To be anyone but yourself in a world which is doing its best, night and day, to make you everybody else means to fight the hardest battle which any human being can fight; and never stop fighting." - e.e cummings
"They had you crawling, and you came up flying. They had you crying, and you came up smiling. And the last laugh, baby is yours." - Mark Knopfler
Why do you run?
I run because running unleashes the true me. Gutsy, competitive, goal oriented, passionate, hard working, and dedicated are all parts of my character. Running brings out this side of me. Running can also be a form of therapy and it can bring people together. I consider myself very in touch with my emotions, which I like to share with others. Going for a run is the best place to catch up, provide advice, or enjoy the many emotions running can bring to a person, with someone else. It brings people together, and I have met my very best friends through my running. When I am running, I am me. It's as simple as that.
What is your favorite place to run?
In my hometown of Mankato, Minnesota there is this little lake called Indian Lake. Although the lake is small, there is a trail that goes around it. During early morning runs, especially in the summer, there is usually steam rising off the lake, ducks swimming about, and a stillness to the air. It is the epicenter of peaceful. And, on the plus side, they always plow the trail in the winter, so Minnesota blizzards can't stop me from running around the icy lake.
Running gear you can't live without?
Well, I am obsessed with the Oiselle Flyte shorts! Best compression shorts I have ever covered my little buns with! They fit perfectly and are just the right length. I hate compression shorts that like to play peek-a-boo with my butt cheeks, but these shorts have stopped this issue right in its tracks.
What is your favorite local running store?
Mill City Running! From the awesome gear (including Oiselle) to the great people that work there, it has it all! Plus, every Friday morning there is Flapjack Friday morning run. Who can argue with fun people to run with and flapjacks!?
When you're not running where would we find you?
Yoga, coffee shops, the public library, camping, discovering new gems in my city!
What is your favorite post-race treat?
There is nothing like a good burger after a good race! Not the fast food kind either. I'm talking juicy, grilled to perfection, preferably free range beef, on a homemade bun! Cue watering mouth..!
