What is your favorite quote that guides, inspires, or embodies your training/racing/life?
"If you wait to do everything until you’re sure it’s right, you’ll probably never do much of anything." - Win Bordon
I found this quote in UW’s school newspaper (of all places) in a time where I was a little tentative about training and racing. It challenged me to step out of walking in fear and trust the journey, rather than trying to make everything perfect before venturing forward.
Favorite post-race meal?
Pizza with fresh pineapple or a good burger and some sort of dessert, preferably mint frozen yogurt with tons of Oreo crumbles.
What is your must-have piece of running gear?
Powersox: I found these socks in high school and they haven’t missed a run since!
Do you have a training philosophy?
Learn from whatever season of life, training, or racing you are in. Wherever you are, there are lessons to be learned and the time that you spend in that season of life is purposeful. It can be so easy to wish away a time of injury or a hard period of training or racing, but don’t get so caught up in doing so that you miss the lessons that are available to you in the meantime.
What is your favorite place to run?
I really enjoy exploring new trails, especially when hills are involved! Two of my favorite all-time runs are El Moro Canyon at Crystal Cove State Park in Laguna Beach, CA and Green Lake in Seattle, WA.
Why do you run?
Originally, I got into running because once I reached high school my parents gave me a choice: do a sport or get a job. I decided to try Cross Country and Track and slowly fell in love with it. In high school I kept running because I was successful at it, but through that injuries and challenges that I faced in college, God revealed to me how much joy running brings into my life. I have been taught, challenged, and shaped through running in more ways than I could ever have imagined! The friendships and bonds I have formed through running will last a lifetime and I know the journey will only continue!
What is your favorite workout?
On the track: 400m repeats, 1k repeats, or a ladder of some sort. Off the track: mile repeats or hills.
What is your favorite activity, when not running?
Baking…is that even a question?!
